MODULE 14

End-to-End Product Discovery

Stitch every module into one continuous, repeatable discovery process.

Connecting the Full Discovery Process

The End-to-End Flow

  1. Understand users (Module 2) — define segments and personas.
  2. Research continuously (Module 3) — interviews, surveys, observation feed everything downstream.
  3. Discover problems (Module 4) — frame root problems and JTBD, not just symptoms.
  4. Map the journey (Module 5) — find where in the experience the problem lives.
  5. Scan the market (Module 6) — understand competitive and trend context.
  6. Assess opportunities (Module 7) — size, risk-assess, and prioritize using the OST.
  7. Generate solutions (Module 8) — diverge, then converge on strong candidates.
  8. Form hypotheses (Module 9) — make assumptions explicit and testable.
  9. Validate (Module 10) — run the cheapest experiment that produces real evidence.
  10. Measure (Module 11) — track whether discovery is actually driving outcomes.
  11. Align stakeholders (Module 12) throughout, not just at the end.

It's a Loop, Not a Line

In continuous discovery, these steps aren't a one-time waterfall — they run in overlapping, recurring cycles. A team might be validating one solution while simultaneously researching the next opportunity.

A Practical Weekly Rhythm

  • Weekly: at least one customer touchpoint (interview, usability test, or survey review).
  • Weekly/biweekly: update the Opportunity Solution Tree with new evidence.
  • Ongoing: run small experiments on the riskiest assumption for whatever solution is in flight.
  • Monthly/quarterly: zoom out — review discovery metrics, market trends, and stakeholder alignment.

Common Failure Modes Across the Full Process

  • Skipping straight to solutions without problem discovery.
  • Doing research once and never revisiting personas/journeys as the market shifts.
  • Treating prioritization as a one-time exercise instead of a living, evidence-updated ranking.
